Yuugi and Yami trudged up the street, crossing an empty city square, hints of their forest trek still clinging to their clothes. "Where did everyone go?" Yuugi wanted to know. "There were scores of people who got off the train with us."
Yami shook his head. "I don't know, Aibou."
Yuugi gasped at a sudden thought, face lighting up as it has not done in over a month. "Anzu and Ryou! Do you think they're here, too, somewhere?"
Yami sighed, unwilling to answer that just yet. He did not want to get his "brother's" hopes up, but neither had he the heart to gainsay him, not with that old light of joy back in his eyes, even fleetingly.
His partner's thoughts were not lost on Yuugi. He's right. He heaved a deep breath, preparing for reality when and if it struck. He had no idea where they were. The afterlife - eternity - was probably as vast as it was immortal. No, they're probably not here, he realized sadly. Oh, well . . . wonder if we'll meet anyone we know . . . used to know . . . *sigh* whatever. His eyes had dropped to the pavement, and he pulled them back up again. "Oh! Look, Yami, a lake! And what's that big building on the other side, I wonder . . . "
Yami grinned softly. "Shall we go check it out?"
