((I GET SHIT DONE EVENTUALLY, YEAH?  Anyway . . . cuz this is up several days later than I'd said, have a piccie first as a consolation prize  ^_^))

Anzu had been working for Mutou-Grandfather at the Kame for a few weeks now.  Sometimes, she and Yugi had worked together, many times not.  He couldn't afford to pay two employees, even part-time, overly much, so usually one of them was working with him while the other was off.  But when he could, he scheduled the two of them together.  It gave himself a nice break . . . and the two youngsters some much needed "together" time.

This afternoon, Anzu came over to the shop, expecting for both of them to be off-work because they had a project for school to work on . . . only to find the sole occupant of the shop to be Grandpa Mutou.

**********

Down the way and around a corner on a busier street, Yugi put on a grin for everyone, but frankly?  He looked like a fool.  Or anyway, he felt like one.  The costume really had been meant for someone at least a foot taller.  And it itched - some of the seams weren't properly sewn.  They were more like . . . glued, which made the edges of the fabric stiff and scratchy and scraped or dug at his skin here and there.

He loved Dark Magician.  He really, really did!

But . . . not right now.

((OOC: Whee, let the fun times begin!))

"Grandpa Mutou", Anzu said as she looked around, checking to make sure that Yuugi wasn't hiding himself in some nook or cranny; he was small enough to fit himself nearly anywhere and he was prone to making up new games on the spot, "Didn't Yuugi tell you that we had a project for school to work on today?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Should I?" Mai Kujaku said to herself, sipping on her coffee. "I mean, he is standing right there, completely unsuspecting..." Mai then observed Yuugi, dressed as the Dark Magician, calling out 'Dark Magic Attack!' to the loud joy of a couple of young boys just a little shorter than him. "Who am I kidding, of course I am!" And so she went on over to Yuugi, preparing a short list of all the ways she would tease him.
(OOC: That should be plenty embarrassing for Yuugi, I should think. XD))
Sugoroku looked up from a box of booster packs he'd been sorting through and grinned. "Oh, Anzu-chan. Good afternoon. My, is it that late already?" He glanced up at a clock on a shelf behind him. "Oh, not to worry. Yugi should be back soon. He's handling some advertisement for me."
*********************
Movement out of the corner of his eye caught Yugi's attention and he made the mistake of glancing around the edge of the cowl. Oh, no . . . oh, please, no . . . He could already feel his cheeks flame in greater humiliation.
Within their heart, Yami had been trying to give Yugi privacy to deal with this "favor" for his grandfather, but the sudden spike in distress drew his attention. [Aibou, what is it?]
[A guarantee that I will Never. Live. This. Down.] Yugi groaned back.
"Ah, I see." Anzu stood there for a moment, whistling idly, patting her hands against her side. "Do you think you could tell me where he went for this 'advertising'? It's really important that we get started right away."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Yuugi!" Mai called out excitedly, drawing all attention to her and her target. She walked up to Yuugi and bent down at the knees to look him right in his big purple eyes. "Now there's an idea, dressing up like your ace monster! What do you think I should go for, Harpy Lady or Amazoness Paladin?" Yuugi's flared red cheeks were exactly what Mai was aiming for.

Sugoroku nodded. "Oh, sure. He should just be down the street and around the corner, somewhere probably on Tokugawa and Eta. Will you be staying for dinner, too? I'll let Michiko know."

~~~~~~~~~~~
Yugi pulled his cowl down a bit lower on his forehead. "Good afternoon, Mai-san," he murmured, his cheeks most certainly not letting the woman down.
Several kids turned at that. "Huh? Yugi?!" ... "Really?! NO WAY" ... "Can't be. I thought he was taller." The kids closed again, trying to get a good look at his face.
"Hmm, I guess I will. Thanks for the offer Grandpa Mutou, and say the same to Mrs. Michiko for me, okay?" Anzu did a quick little bow and left for the corner of Tokugawa and Eta; shouldn't be too hard to find Yuugi from there, what with that hair of his. She would never admit it of course, but there were quite a few times when they had to work at the same time and there were no customers around, when she wanted to run her fingers through that hair.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Yes kids, this is the one and only Yuugi Mutou, Duel King and winner of Battle City. But if you don't mind, I'd like to have him to myself for a moment. You don't mind, do you?" The boys could not bring themselves to disagree with Mai Kujaku, and so they stepped back, and Mai noticed someone else there, someone without whom the events didn't feel complete without. "Oh hi Anzu! Where have you been?"

"Will do!" Sugoroku returned with a grin. "See you again in a few."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Ah . . . M-mai-san, please, I-?!" Yugi went stiff at Anzu's name. He peeked around the cowl's edge . . . and wanted to sink through the pavement. Oh, gods . . . anyone but her. He really didn't want her to see him like this. Augh!
"Mai? Yuugi?" Anzu just stared at them, mostly at Yuugi. She pondered, was there any way that she could tell Yuugi how absolutely sweet and adorable he looked, without embarrassing the poor boy even more?
((OOC: Well, you should read it already! It's really, really good! Like original manga level good! And if you don't mind, I think I'll be having Mai take off pretty soon; that way we'll both be roleplaying just one character in the scene.))
Yugi shrank just a little bit more. "H-hi, Anzu."
((OOC: Yeah, I should. ^,^;;; I WANT TO...just haven't had the time or the petty cash to get over to Barnes & Noble and /buy/ it. I...can't even remember if I have #2 yet. TT~TT And yeah, that's fine with Mai. =3))
Mai suddenly looked down at her watch. "Oh for the love of...turns out I don't have as much time as I thought. Sorry Yuugi, we'll have to play some other time." She then turned to Anzu with a big smile on her face. "Just remember hun, when you go to get your Dark Magician Girl costume, make sure to use a different tailor then Yuugi did; his seems a bit baggy." With that Mai sauntered off, leaving the two teens to their own devices.
((OOC: There we go, Mai is now out of the picture. And who knows, maybe you'll win the lottery and have the petty cash and time you'll ever need, LOL.))
Before he could catch it, Yugi's imagination /pounced/ on that image, the one of Anzu dressed as Dark Magician Girl - and his cheeks FLAMED again for a whole different reason. "M-MAI-SAN!" he sputtered, glaring after her as she retreated, laughing.
Gods, Anzu would probably never want to talk to him again if she knew what had gone through his mind!
Within his soul room, and carefully masking his emotions, Yami could hardly help his own bout of chuckles at his poor aibou's extremely flustered state.
((OOC: Yeah, I got it twice. But that's okay, no big deal!))
Anzu's blushing was much milder than Yuugi's, but just as notable in its own way. However, she was determined to be professional, and not imagine what it would be like to be wearing the Dark Magician Girl costume alongside Yuugi as the Dark Magician.
"So, this was Grandpa's idea for boosting business I take it?"
Date: 2010-02-23 01:08 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] puzzlemasters.livejournal.com
Yugi sighed and nodded, shoulders hunched, unable to meet her eye. "Yup, pretty much." Of course, he wasn't going to add the part about how he'd originally declined, finally agreeing only because Grandpa offered to pay him a little extra. With that, Yugi was hoping to get Anzu something really nice for her birthday.
"Hey, Anzu? Ah . . . c-could you do me a favor and not mention this to Jonouchi-kun or Honda-kun?" He loved them both dearly . . . but they really could take things too far sometimes, and he just knew he'd never live this down if they found out.
Date: 2010-02-23 01:19 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cypsiman2.livejournal.com
"Of course Yuugi." He didn't need to explain to her why; Anzu knew firsthand that there were times when Jounouchi and Honda had all the emotional maturity of five year olds, and even just hearing about Yuugi's time at cosplay would trigger another bout of aforementioned immaturity.
"Still, we really should try to get back soon and get started on our project." She then noticed a fresh crowd of young boys heading their way. "But apparently we're going to have to wait a little longer."
Date: 2010-02-23 02:44 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] puzzlemasters.livejournal.com
"Right, the project!" Yugi had never been happier for a looming and time-consuming school project! Of course, the fact that he got to spend the time with Anzu had nothing to do with it, nope.
Right, as if. But the more immediate joy did rather revolve around getting out of this ridiculous and uncomfortable costume all the sooner.
O-or not. Crap.
Yugi screwed on a grin for the kids, then a "serious business" face as he indulged them with a few power calls and other antics, even letting one of them "summon" and "command" him against his friend, all the while making sure they knew where the Kame was and that the first shipment of the newest booster set was already in stock.
Forever later - it was actually more like ten minutes - the boys moved on, and Yugi snagged Anzu's arm to haul her down the street. "Come on! Before anyone else spots us..."
Date: 2010-02-23 03:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cypsiman2.livejournal.com
Right away, as soon as Anzu felt Yuugi pulling at her arm, she started power walking; running would draw unnecessary attention, and besides, with her legs it wouldn't have been reasonable to try to force Yuugi to run with her, and that was before taking the costume into account. And besides, it wasn't as though it was far to the Kame game shop, just a block or so...
And halfway there was when they'd managed to hit one final snag. Literally, Yuugi's costume had caught on a snag. "Yuugi, you are fully dressed under all that, right?" Anzu said to him beneath her breath.
Date: 2010-02-24 07:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] puzzlemasters.livejournal.com
Yugi managed to swallow back the squeak of mortified horror, his face almost purple.
"A-as dressed as I'd w-want to be to go s-swimming..."
Boxers and his socks and sneakers. That was it. He needed to do laundry, had spilled soup all over his last pair of school slacks, and had foregone a shirt because it showed up under the costume, making it hang and look funny.
Date: 2010-02-24 07:38 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cypsiman2.livejournal.com
"Okay..." Anzu said slowly, breathing shallow as she formulated a plan of action. "Well, there's no reason to panic. I'll just...carefully remove the fabric from the snag...and then you can hold it together until you can get changed."
Unfortunately, the costume hadn't just snagged, it had wrapped around it as well, and she had to be very very careful to slowly untie it without taking a very inappropriate peek.
Date: 2010-02-25 01:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] puzzlemasters.livejournal.com
It was all Yugi could do to hold still and not dance around "trying to help," knowing he'd only make things worse. He wondered if the FIERCE BLUSH that seemed to run to his toes actually made the rest of him "glow in the dark" like Jou sometimes teased him his cheeks did. Yeah, just what he needed, to be lighting up the whole inside of this stupid costume!
At least Anzu was being very sensitive about this. She was sensitive about everything. But still, he hoped she didn't catch any illusion-dispelling, VERY-LACK-OF-MANLY physique.
Date: 2010-02-25 01:12 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cypsiman2.livejournal.com
"Okay, that should do it." Anzu held together the torn fabric, noting that it was a pretty long tear all told. "If we have any free time after the project, I'll see what I can do about patching this thing up for you."
Of course, it was also very important that she never ever mention that she saw a flash of his bare legs.
Date: 2010-02-26 02:47 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] puzzlemasters.livejournal.com
Yugi looked in dismay at the tear. "Oh, man. Grandpa's going to /kill/ me!" At her comment, he looked up. "N-no, it's okay, Anzu. You don't have to worry about it. I can . . . um . . . probably . . . "
He had no idea how to sew, but he figured, how hard could it be?
Of course . . . he had to GET home without flashing anything at Anzu first.
Yami thought that doing so might not be such a bad idea, really . . . but wisely, he kept that opinion to himself. Aibou was flustered enough as it was.
Date: 2010-02-26 03:24 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cypsiman2.livejournal.com
"You can probably turn the costume into a quilt. Yuugi, you're my best friend, but you shouldn't try to do something like this on your first try. That is, if you're serious about wanting to sew that is." Anzu said, wanting to bring some levity to the situation. And while it was slow going now, since Yuugi had to pull on the back of the costume to hold the tear together, it was only 10 meters or so to the Kame game store now...
"I . . . yeah, probably not," Yugi conceded reluctantly. "But you know how to sew?" Somehow he'd never pictured her doing something so . . . mundane. Not that there was anything wrong with it. "You could teach me? I'd like that." It really was a useful skill to have, all things considered, even if it was considered a "woman's skill."
And thank the gods, they were almost home!
"Of course; clothes are always getting torn, it's cheaper and more efficient to fix them than to replace them." And, she thought to herself, she already spent enough on unmentionables and shoes as it was. "Besides, looking at your hands, I can tell that all you'd need is a little instruction." She still remembered the feeling of Yuugi's hand from Duelist Kingdom, how soft, gentle, yet strong they were.
And now they were just 5 meters away, nothing could happen now...
Nothing except the brewing storm that was blowing in.
The afternoon had been breezy, but just then a stronger wind rushed down the street, one of those audible creatures that you can literally hear coming before it hits.
"You can tell from my hands?" Yugi started to ask more, but then a rush of wind blew over them. Neither Yugi nor Anzu had been expecting it, so neither had been prepared to keep a good enough hold on the costume. The edges pulled from their hands, billowing open like cape or a set of cloth wings.
Going instantly purple-crimson, Yugi SQUEAKED and dropped to his knees, catching the edges of the robe and hugging it around himself. Anzu would only barely hear the faint, mortified moan that floated out from behind his bangs, head bowed so his chin was tucked to his chest.
From: [identity profile] cypsiman2.livejournal.com
"It's...It's okay Yuugi". Anzu said, trying desperately to keep the intense red blush of her face out of her voice. "It wasn't anything I haven't seen before in general." Just in particular, just in Yuugi's case, just in public, just when neither of them were ready for this even in private.
"Yuugi? Anzu? Did something happen out here?" Sugoroku said, having just come out the front door.
From: [identity profile] puzzlemasters.livejournal.com
Yugi curled over even more. "N-no! Nothing. J-just me being a flasher!" he squeaked in a too-high voice.
He didn't want to think about the fact that the one person who he sometimes let himself fantasize it might one day be possible to show that much (and more) to was standing right here and had to have seen . . . everything . . .
Sugoroku raised an eye at this; it wasn't that he didn't trust his grandson or anything like that, but what he just said deserved a little skepticism. He walked on over to Yuugi and Anzu, noting that the two of them were blushing rather fiercely. And then he noticed the state of the costume.
"Well," he said with a chuckle, "I suppose that's what I get for getting the cheep fabric!" He gave Yuugi and Anzu a firm supportive pat on the back. "Come on you crazy kids, come inside, I've got a special on cards and game books that might just cheer you two up."
"Um . . . o-okay, Grandpa . . . butnotbeforeIchangeclothesexcusemeI'llberightback!" With that, he bolted to his feet and into the shop, dashing up the stairs and into his room.
As he hastily tore off - okay, not really, no more damage, but still - the costume and tossed it aside to replace with proper jeans and t-shirt, Yami chided him.
[Aibou, is it really such a big deal? As I see it, it's really no worse than when you took her to that amusement park last summer. You both put on swimsuits and did the water slide, remember?]
"Yes, but I wasn't doing the water slide in my UNDERWEAR!"
Only once he was properly dressed did he make himself go back down the stairs once more, his face only a half-step or so less crimson. But he was clothed. In real clothes.
"Ah, Yuugi, you're back!" Sugoroku said from behind the counter, Anzu standing just off to the side with her own face turned away. "Anzu explained about what happened, and I think I owe you two for having to deal with all that."
"No, Grandpa Mutou," Anzu said, waving her hands in front of him, "You don't have to do that, and besides, like I've been telling you, Yuugi and I need to work on our project as soon as we can anyway! Yep, there's just no two ways about it, we're just going to have to politely turn you down."
Confused, Yugi looked back and forth between the two. "Um . . . yeah. Rain check or something, maybe - we really do have to get that project done. It's due on Friday. But . . . what did you have in mind, Grandpa?" He couldn't help the curiosity, even if he had no intention of going with whatever his grandfather had mentioned.
"Well Yuugi, your Mother had a reservation at a restaurant this evening, but it seems like things didn't work out with her date...I don't recall if it was a matter of scheduling or more personal issues. Anyway, as it stands, the reservation hasn't actually been canceled, so you and Anzu are more than free to take it up!"
Anzu...was silent. Very, very, silent.
From: [identity profile] puzzlemasters.livejournal.com
Yugi's eyes went wide. Go to a restaurant? With Anzu?! ALONE?!
He didn't remember passing out in his bedroom, but he was suddenly pretty sure he was dreaming at the moment.
Yami's tone was wry in the back of his mind. [No, Aibou, you're not dreaming.]
Yugi snuck a glance at Anzu, who seemed frozen. In horror, probably. She just doesn't want to say anything and hurt my feelings. After all, she'd been clinging to the need to work on their project like a lifeline, trying to get out of it. Hadn't she?
[Test it, Aibou...]
Swallowing hard - it sounded like a heavenly way to spend the evening to him! - he decided to d-do that. "I-I'd...really like that, a-actually . . . b-but we really do need to get that project worked on." He hoped he didn't sound too eager at the first part or disappointed at the second.
He really hoped he wasn't blushing as hard as he felt like he was!
From: [identity profile] cypsiman2.livejournal.com
"Well, it...it does sound like it would be nice..." Anzu said, working very hard to keep her voice under control. She turned to Granpa Mutou, "Grandpa, do you suppose you can, change the date of the reservation, so that Yuugi and I can get our project done on time?"
"Well, I'll have to call in a few favors," the old man said in an amused tone, "but I think that's something I'll be able to manage. Now go on, get to work on that 'oh so important' project of yours!" Suddenly, a ringing at the door. "And besides which, I have customers it seems!"
Date: 2010-03-19 12:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] puzzlemasters.livejournal.com
REALLY?! Really, was she serious? Or just being polite and would find something to come up later so that she'd not be able to make it?
No . . . Anzu wasn't that kind of person. She would have just not brought up rescheduling at all if that were the case.
R-right?
"Right! Project! C'mon, Anzu!" Was he grinning like a loon? And did he really care? Without thinking about it, he snagged Anzu's wrist and headed for the stairs, calling over his shoulder, "Thanks, Grandpa!"
