puzzlemasters: (Yugi - My Turn!)

((I GET SHIT DONE EVENTUALLY, YEAH?  Anyway . . . cuz this is up several days later than I'd said, have a piccie first as a consolation prize  ^_^))

Anzu had been working for Mutou-Grandfather at the Kame for a few weeks now.  Sometimes, she and Yugi had worked together, many times not.  He couldn't afford to pay two employees, even part-time, overly much, so usually one of them was working with him while the other was off.  But when he could, he scheduled the two of them together.  It gave himself a nice break . . . and the two youngsters some much needed "together" time.

This afternoon, Anzu came over to the shop, expecting for both of them to be off-work because they had a project for school to work on . . . only to find the sole occupant of the shop to be Grandpa Mutou.

**********

Down the way and around a corner on a busier street, Yugi put on a grin for everyone, but frankly?  He looked like a fool.  Or anyway, he felt like one.  The costume really had been meant for someone at least a foot taller.  And it itched - some of the seams weren't properly sewn.  They were more like . . . glued, which made the edges of the fabric stiff and scratchy and scraped or dug at his skin here and there.

He loved Dark Magician.  He really, really did!

But . . . not right now.

"I . . . yeah, probably not," Yugi conceded reluctantly. "But you know how to sew?" Somehow he'd never pictured her doing something so . . . mundane. Not that there was anything wrong with it. "You could teach me? I'd like that." It really was a useful skill to have, all things considered, even if it was considered a "woman's skill."

And thank the gods, they were almost home!

"Of course; clothes are always getting torn, it's cheaper and more efficient to fix them than to replace them." And, she thought to herself, she already spent enough on unmentionables and shoes as it was. "Besides, looking at your hands, I can tell that all you'd need is a little instruction." She still remembered the feeling of Yuugi's hand from Duelist Kingdom, how soft, gentle, yet strong they were.

And now they were just 5 meters away, nothing could happen now...

((LOL Anzu and her unmentionables and shoes. XD;;; Quick question - do you have any ideas for the last five meters? I'm sorry to say I really don't. OTL))

((ooc: I know its a bit stereotypical, but Anzu does strike me as the sort who'd spend her spare cash on that sort of thing. As for the last five meters...sudden uplifting gust of wind?))

Nothing except the brewing storm that was blowing in.

The afternoon had been breezy, but just then a stronger wind rushed down the street, one of those audible creatures that you can literally hear coming before it hits.

"You can tell from my hands?" Yugi started to ask more, but then a rush of wind blew over them. Neither Yugi nor Anzu had been expecting it, so neither had been prepared to keep a good enough hold on the costume. The edges pulled from their hands, billowing open like cape or a set of cloth wings.

Going instantly purple-crimson, Yugi SQUEAKED and dropped to his knees, catching the edges of the robe and hugging it around himself. Anzu would only barely hear the faint, mortified moan that floated out from behind his bangs, head bowed so his chin was tucked to his chest.

"It's...It's okay Yuugi". Anzu said, trying desperately to keep the intense red blush of her face out of her voice. "It wasn't anything I haven't seen before in general." Just in particular, just in Yuugi's case, just in public, just when neither of them were ready for this even in private.

"Yuugi? Anzu? Did something happen out here?" Sugoroku said, having just come out the front door.

Yugi curled over even more. "N-no! Nothing. J-just me being a flasher!" he squeaked in a too-high voice.

He didn't want to think about the fact that the one person who he sometimes let himself fantasize it might one day be possible to show that much (and more) to was standing right here and had to have seen . . . everything . . .

Sugoroku raised an eye at this; it wasn't that he didn't trust his grandson or anything like that, but what he just said deserved a little skepticism. He walked on over to Yuugi and Anzu, noting that the two of them were blushing rather fiercely. And then he noticed the state of the costume.

"Well," he said with a chuckle, "I suppose that's what I get for getting the cheep fabric!" He gave Yuugi and Anzu a firm supportive pat on the back. "Come on you crazy kids, come inside, I've got a special on cards and game books that might just cheer you two up."

"Um . . . o-okay, Grandpa . . . butnotbeforeIchangeclothesexcusemeI'llberightback!" With that, he bolted to his feet and into the shop, dashing up the stairs and into his room.

As he hastily tore off - okay, not really, no more damage, but still - the costume and tossed it aside to replace with proper jeans and t-shirt, Yami chided him.

[Aibou, is it really such a big deal? As I see it, it's really no worse than when you took her to that amusement park last summer. You both put on swimsuits and did the water slide, remember?]

"Yes, but I wasn't doing the water slide in my UNDERWEAR!"

Only once he was properly dressed did he make himself go back down the stairs once more, his face only a half-step or so less crimson. But he was clothed. In real clothes.

"Ah, Yuugi, you're back!" Sugoroku said from behind the counter, Anzu standing just off to the side with her own face turned away. "Anzu explained about what happened, and I think I owe you two for having to deal with all that."

"No, Grandpa Mutou," Anzu said, waving her hands in front of him, "You don't have to do that, and besides, like I've been telling you, Yuugi and I need to work on our project as soon as we can anyway! Yep, there's just no two ways about it, we're just going to have to politely turn you down."

Confused, Yugi looked back and forth between the two. "Um . . . yeah. Rain check or something, maybe - we really do have to get that project done. It's due on Friday. But . . . what did you have in mind, Grandpa?" He couldn't help the curiosity, even if he had no intention of going with whatever his grandfather had mentioned.

"Well Yuugi, your Mother had a reservation at a restaurant this evening, but it seems like things didn't work out with her date...I don't recall if it was a matter of scheduling or more personal issues. Anyway, as it stands, the reservation hasn't actually been canceled, so you and Anzu are more than free to take it up!"

Anzu...was silent. Very, very, silent.
From: [identity profile] puzzlemasters.livejournal.com
Yugi's eyes went wide. Go to a restaurant? With Anzu?! ALONE?!

He didn't remember passing out in his bedroom, but he was suddenly pretty sure he was dreaming at the moment.

Yami's tone was wry in the back of his mind. [No, Aibou, you're not dreaming.]

Yugi snuck a glance at Anzu, who seemed frozen. In horror, probably. She just doesn't want to say anything and hurt my feelings. After all, she'd been clinging to the need to work on their project like a lifeline, trying to get out of it. Hadn't she?

[Test it, Aibou...]

Swallowing hard - it sounded like a heavenly way to spend the evening to him! - he decided to d-do that. "I-I'd...really like that, a-actually . . . b-but we really do need to get that project worked on." He hoped he didn't sound too eager at the first part or disappointed at the second.

He really hoped he wasn't blushing as hard as he felt like he was!
From: [identity profile] cypsiman2.livejournal.com
"Well, it...it does sound like it would be nice..." Anzu said, working very hard to keep her voice under control. She turned to Granpa Mutou, "Grandpa, do you suppose you can, change the date of the reservation, so that Yuugi and I can get our project done on time?"

"Well, I'll have to call in a few favors," the old man said in an amused tone, "but I think that's something I'll be able to manage. Now go on, get to work on that 'oh so important' project of yours!" Suddenly, a ringing at the door. "And besides which, I have customers it seems!"

REALLY?! Really, was she serious? Or just being polite and would find something to come up later so that she'd not be able to make it?

No . . . Anzu wasn't that kind of person. She would have just not brought up rescheduling at all if that were the case.

R-right?

"Right! Project! C'mon, Anzu!" Was he grinning like a loon? And did he really care? Without thinking about it, he snagged Anzu's wrist and headed for the stairs, calling over his shoulder, "Thanks, Grandpa!"

Coulda sworn I'd replied to this. *headdesk*

I don't have any particular ideas for the project. It'd be kinda cute to see how they handle each other, knowing they have a date coming up, but either's fine with me.

There is that, but personally I think I'd like to skip ahead to the date proper. It just feels like the way to go with this.

Be sure to let me know when you've got the new thread all ready to go!
